Regulation of water release from Sugovushan reservoir, ensured water supply to Tartar, Goranboy and Yevlakh regions, as well as ecological balance

Under the wise leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev, our brave Army won a historic victory over Armenia within 44 days, liberated our Karabakh from occupation, our territorial integrity was restored.

This victory will have a significant impact on the economic development of Azerbaijan, as well as the entire region, and will form a completely new factor of economic development in our country. The State Agency for Water Resources of the Ministry of Emergency Situations also has responsibilities in this regard. Suffice it to say that the liberation of Sugovushan reservoir by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on October 3, 2020 means the solution of water shortage problem in several big regions.

In order to ensure the implementation of paragraph 6.1 of the Decree "On organizing temporary special management in the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan" signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on October 29, 2020, the Ministry of Emergency Situations took under protection the liberated Sugovushan reservoir in Tartar region. Thus, after Sugovushan village was released from occupation as a result of the counterattack operations carried out by the Azerbaijani Army, release of water from Sugovushan reservoir was achieved.

As a result of the regulation of water release from the reservoir, water supply to Tartar, Goranboy and Yevlakh regions, as well as ecological balance has been ensured. Water supply to these areas will eliminate the water shortage, high agricultural productivity will be achieved and ecological balance will be restored. The supply of water to these areas will also reduce the demand for the use of existing artesian wells in the area and save power consumption.

It should be noted that Sugovushan reservoir is located on the Tartarchay river in Sugovushan village of Tartar region. The reservoir with a total volume of 5.86 million cubic meters was under occupation for 28 years. Due to this, there were serious difficulties in water supply in Tartar, Aghdara, Yevlakh, Barda, Aghdam and Aghjabadi regions. At the same time, the lack of water created serious environmental problems in the river. At present, as a result of the regulation of water release from the reservoir, water is supplied to Tartar, Goranboy and Yevlakh regions. Along with the restoration of ecological balance in the area, the supply of water to these areas will play a key role in ensuring sustainability of the agricultural work in the future, eliminating water shortage and achieving high agricultural productivity.
