President Ilham Aliyev attends ceremony to commemorate Khojaly genocide victims

On the night of February 25-26 1992, Armenian occupants committed one of the bloodiest crimes in the history of the mankind in the Azerbaijani town of Khojaly. 28 years have passed since the tragedy was committed. As a result of the massacre, 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children, 70 elderly people were killed, 487 became disabled, 1275 civilians were taken captive, 150 people are still unaccounted for. 8 families were completely annihilated, 25 children lost both parents. Every year the Azerbaijanis all over the world commemorate the victims of Khojaly tragedy.

Thousands of Baku residents arrived at the Khojaly memorial in Khatai district on February 26 to pay tribute to victims of the genocide on its 28th anniversary.

AZERTAC reports that President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the commemorative ceremony.

A ceremonial guard of honor was lined up around the memorial.

President Ilham Aliyev put a wreath at the memorial and paid tribute to Khojaly victims.

First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, state and government officials and heads of religious confessions put flowers at the monument.

Crowds continued to arrive at the monument to the Khojaly genocide victims throughout the day. Tens of thousands of people visited the genocide monument. The people put flowers at the monument, paid tribute to the martyrs.
