Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Etibar Mirzayev meets with a number of officials in Turkey

Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant-General Etibar Mirzayev met with Deputy Interior Minister of the Republic of Turkiye Ismayil Catakli, head of the Ministry of Interior Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Yunus Sezer and chief of AFAD Main Operation Department Yusuf Aysu in Istanbul on May 13.

Noting that our bilateral cooperation was continued basing on friendship and brotherhood, Deputy Minister Etibar Mirzayev spoke about Azerbaijan-Turkey relations, underlined the importance of effective cooperation between the relevant bodies of the two fraternal countries as part of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) under the UN. The Deputy Minister said bilateral meetings, exercises and consultations would contribute to increasing opportunities for activity, as well as the process of preparation for INSARAG classification to be held in Azerbaijan at the end of 2022. He thanked Turkiye for supporting successful INSARAG classification of Azerbaijani MES International Search and Rescue Unit.

Welcoming the Azerbaijani delegation, Deputy Minister Ismayil Catakli expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan's President Mr. Ilham Aliyev and brotherly Azerbaijan for comprehensive aid provided by the Republic of Azerbaijan during natural disasters in Turkiye. The Deputy Minister thanked Azerbaijan's Minister of Emergency Situations, Colonel-General Kemaleddin Heydarov for the efforts in terms of successful continuation of the cooperation in the field of search and rescue operations.

Head of AFAD Yunus Sezer underlined the importance of exchanging information and experience in terms of search and rescue operations. Yunus Sezer also expressed views on organizing joint exercises, mutual visits and appropriate working meetings. He said that AFAD would continue to provide support for successful INSARAG classification of the MES International Search and Rescue Unit.

Views were exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
