Khojaly genocide is one of the most terrible and bloodiest pages in Azerbaijans history

A commemorative event on the 28th anniversary of Khojaly genocide was held at the Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations on February 24.

First, the participants of the event observed a minute of silence to pay tribute to the victims of Khojaly genocide.

Making a keynote speech at the event, deputy chief of the MES Academy Colonel IlhamBabashov said over the past 200 years the Azerbaijani people had undergone ethnic cleansing, genocide policy by Armenian chauvinists. Khojaly genocide, one of the most terrible and bloodiest tragedies of the past century, is one of the results of that inhuman policy.

It was said that o the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian troops attacked Khojaly and committed a terrible genocide. As a result of the genocide, 613 Khojaly residents, including 106 women, 63 children were killed, 8 families were completely annihilated, 25 children lost both parents, 130one of the parents. 487 people were wounded by the enemy, 1275 people were taken hostage, 150 of them are still unaccounted for.

Deputy chief of the Academy underlined that the first legal-political assessment to Khojaly tragedy had been given by the nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev. He noted that the political course on informing the international community about the truths on the Khojaly tragedy, the most tragic genocide of the 20th century, was initiated by the national leader Heydar Aliyev and was being continued successfully by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces IlhamAliyev and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

A documentary on Khojaly genocide was screened at the end of the event.

On February 25, on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of Khojaly genocide, chairman of the Trade Union of the Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehman Ismayilov, employees of the union's administration, chairmen and active members of trade unions of the MES agencies visited Khojaly Genocide monument in Khatai district and laid carnations at the monument.

It should be noted that on the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian troops attacked Khojaly and committed a terrible genocide. As a result of the massacre committed by Armenian chauvinists against Azerbaijanis, 613 Khojaly residents, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 elderly people were killed, 8 families were completely annihilated. 487 people, including 76 children were wounded, 1275 people were taken hostage, 150 of them are still unaccounted for.

Informing the international community about the truths on Khojaly, achieving objective assessment to this genocide have been set as priorities of Azerbaijan's foreign policy, continuous steps are being taken in this regard.
