International regional exercise on the theme "Responsive measures in case of quake" continues

The international regional exercise on the theme "Responsive measures in case of quake" jointly organized by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs that kicked off at the MES Academy on November 3 is continued.

The representatives of relevant bodies and NGOs attending the exercise are carrying our activities to assess the situation in case of natural disaster, prepare appropriate proposals, make decisions, eliminate the consequences of disaster. Informing the public on the situation, measures and rules of behavior are also among the major topics of the exercise. Applying for the international aid and mutual activity with the international organizations are also among the priorities.

The exercise is being attended by the employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other relevant government agencies, teams of the member states of the UN International Search-and-Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), as well as representatives of NATO, World Health Organization, OSCE, BP-Azerbaijan, MapAction.

Addressing the event, chairman of the International Search-and-Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) Rudolf Muller said: "We are here to practice local and international procedures in case of emergency situations. Currently, the scenario of the quake is being practiced. The local units are acting jointly with the international search-and-rescue units.  The units that have come from numerous countries and more than 15 international organizations are demonstrating their skills to help rescue people after the quake. This exercise allows us testing the international procedures and shows our abilities to work effectively together."

The exercise will be over on November 8.
