Meeting on the results of the “Strengthening radiation safety infrastructure and development of support services in the Republic of Azerbaijan” Project was held

Meeting on the results of the “Strengthening radiation safety infrastructure and development of support services in the Republic of Azerbaijan” Project jointly implemented by the State Agency for Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activity of the MES and Radiation Protection Centre (RPC) and Projects Management Agency of the Republic of Lithuania was held.

Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations, medical service Lieutenant-General Faig Taghi-Zada thoroughly spoke about the project implementation process and results.

According to a representative of the European Union Jurgen Williams, the creation of a state agency in this field is commendable. He said, "I am very pleased that this "Twinning" project have been sufficiently appreciated in Azerbaijan”. So far, the European Union has implemented 30 projects in Azerbaijan, and I hope that the cooperation between the acting in the implementation of the project experts: Lithuania and Azerbaijan will continue."

Ambassador of Lithuania to Azerbaijan Valdas Lastauskas also highly praised the results of the project, and thanked the Azerbaijani side for the fruitful cooperation. He also noted that the Azerbaijani government has given great support to the projects carried out in this field. According to him, Lithuania is ready to continue and expand the cooperation in the field of radiation safety with Azerbaijan.

Talking about the results of the Project, Director of Lithuanian Radiation Protection Centre Albinas Mastauskas said, it has been an important contributor to the development of nuclear and radiation safety in Azerbaijan. Legislation in the field of nuclear and radiation safety of Azerbaijan has been harmonized with the EU legislation; the State Program on nuclear and radiation safety has been drafted. In this context, improving the capacity of the radiological laboratories for the needs of the Ministry of Emergency Situations is of the important issues as well, Mr. Mastauskas added.

Acting Head of the State Agency for Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activity of the MES of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vugar Huseynov also spoke in the event stressing the importance of the project for Azerbaijan. He said, the good results have been achieved within the project.

The prospects of cooperation were also discussed during the meeting.
